Carroll Companies Names Craig Carlock Chief Operating Officer

The Carroll Companies, a luxury real estate development and management firm announced this week that Craig Carlock has been named as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. He will now be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Greensboro-based company that was founded in 1983.

Carlock will have a whole lot to oversee. The real estate conglomerate – which includes land development, construction, ownership, management and publication – has grown through the years to a total estimated valuation of over $5.2 billion.

The Carroll Companies President and CEO Roy Carroll said Carlock has the knowledge and experience needed to be a very effective COO.

“As we continue to grow at The Carroll Companies, Craig’s institutional experience will be invaluable to the organization,” Carroll said. “Having known Craig for a number of years, I know that he is a great fit for The Carroll Companies’ culture, and he shares our fundamental beliefs.”

Carlock served most recently as the chief executive officer of Omega Sports, an independent sporting goods retailer that has stores across North Carolina as well as an online presence that serves customers around the country. At Omega Sports, Carlock updated the brand’s image, helped the company launch its online store and oversaw the development of a customer-focused loyalty program. He also led the modernization of the company’s stores and other facilities.

Carlock will now be responsible for finding ways to maximize revenue, reduce expenses and drive continuous improvement at The Carroll Companies.

“The decision to join The Carroll Companies was an easy one,” Carlock said. “I was immediately attracted to the company’s long and successful track record, its thoughtful corporate values, the excellent management team, and to Mr. Carroll’s vision for the future.”

He added, “I am excited to join such an outstanding organization.”

Before taking a job with Omega Sports, Carlock worked for The Fresh Market. From 1999 through 2015, he participated with the founding family and others in management to transition the company from a popular entrepreneurial enterprise into a publicly traded, high growth, national specialty retailer.

Carlock held several positions in Marketing and Operations with the Fresh Market and, in 2009, he was appointed president and chief executive officer. In 2010, Carlock and the management team led that company through its Initial Public Offering. Before the Fresh Market, Carlock worked six years in Cincinnati for Procter & Gamble.

Carlock currently serves as the lead independent director on the Board of Directors of Forward Air Corporation, a publicly traded transportation company.

He grew up outside of Atlanta and received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Davidson College and an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

He and his wife Kristin met in business school and married in 1993. They both say they greatly enjoy living in Greensboro.

They have two adult children and one son-in-law who live in Charlotte.
